Description
Slipper-type lamp made in Coptic Egypt. Low, sharply carinated reservoir on small ring base, within which potter’s mark composed of two dots at periphery of circle-enclosed dot; vertical loop handle of elliptical section fr just under carination to edge of discus. Around discus & opening toward nozzle two thick raised bands within which around fill hole stylized leaf pattern; on shoulder in Greek capitals AGIOS THEODOROS (St Theodore). Crudely made. Originally covered in red paint. Slight darkening at nozzle.
