Parthenon, East Pediment Figure

Item

Title
Parthenon, East Pediment Figure
Description
Cast of an original in the British Museum, London. This is a plaster copy of a sculpture of a youthful male figure from the south corner of the east pediment of the Parthenon. The male figure reclines on an animal skin; its paw lies just below a piece of drapery below the male's left hand -- it would not have been visible from the ground. If the paw is a lion's, the male is Theseus. If it is a panther's, he is Dionysos. The right hand is missing, but the shoulder is positioned in such a way that the figure could be holding a kylix (drinking cup) in hand.
